Memorial Day, A Brief History of Our Most Solemn Holiday

As we go into the weekend, it's good to recall the true meaning of Memorial Day. History.com has a brief video, worth watching. Memorial Day was designed to be a sober occasion to remind us that freedom is never free.

Over the next three days is there a veteran you can thank? A wounded warrior you can befriend and visit?
"For what avail the plough or sail, Or land or life, if freedom fail?"
---Ralph Waldo Emerson

Speaking of freedom, I think war in Israel is fast approaching, perhaps as early as this summer. Joel Rosenberg, a Messianic Jew and best selling author is currently blogging from Israel. Please take time to read and listen to what he has to say.
Here's a link to a video from Sderot, on the border with Gaza. Click the blank space and the video will appear and play.

It is sad that memorial day has become a day of beer and hot dogs for most rather than a day of memorializing those you know or wish you knew who sacrificed for you.

Webutante,

I was aware of Joel through his Joshua Fund, but I had no idea he blogged. Thank you for pointing this out to MizzE. I'm going to be adding his blog and your blog to my list of people I'm partial to. Jungle Mom will get a special billing - I'm partial to people who elevate souls one.at.a.time.

Thank you so much, MizzE.

Joel is special and very knowlegeable with a special mission and heart towards Israel. If you haven't read his books, like The Exekiel Option and Copper Scroll, then you owe it to yourself to do it this summer. I couldn't put any of them down.

I hope Israel is able to eliminate this threat.
