Obama: Man from Glad! Man from Glad!

This post is dedicated to James Wolcott at Vanity Fair who sent many readers to this site. I have taken down the photo because it clearly distracts from the real issue of whether I think Mr. Obama is presidential material, which indeed I do not.

**************************

Suffice it to say, I'm no fan of Barack Obama and never will be. It absolutely floors me this country takes him seriously as real presidential material. I mean, the man has served two years in the U.S. Senate with almost no accomplishment or foreign policy experience in a time we are in a long drawn out war, W-A-R.

A W-A-R that he's staunchly opposed to and that we should be too, by golly.

It's clear we need the Man from Glad. And Obama fits the bill to a tea: a well-spoken, clean cut candidate who can span the divide between rich and poor, black and white, red and blue and dumb and dumber.

Slate has remixed several of Barack's promo videos here. Clearly here is a man trying to be all things to all people, people.

And let's face it, Obama has really been running since that speech he made at the Democratic National convention back in 2004. That's when he caught "the presidential fever." It was all those cameras and wild applause, heady stuff for the Illinois state senator on his way to the Big Senate. And now he can't get enough.

In him, in that moment another messiah figure was born to offer us instant hope from the travails of the dirty rotten fallen world we slog around in: A Man from Glad for all of us wretches in a weenie world.

And who knew we were in need of such a heavy dose of H-O-P-E which he now purports to offer.

Never mind that Saddam Hussein is gone, a new parliamentary government has been established in Iraq with free elections and hundreds of small businesses are springing up everywhere. Even the marshes are starting to flourish there again. The U.S. stock market is setting record highs, we haven't had another terrorist attack here since 9-11, and gas prices are coming down.

None of the hard work of these accomplishments matter, you see. What matters? Well Barack is here to tell us.

He's here to change things, and tell us, along with the New York Times and other pessimistic elites, how tough things really are and how much we need his brand of H-O-P-E.

I'll write more on his candidacy in the months to come, but I want to link to my previous post on Obama here last October.

Meanwhile, calling Man from Glad with H-O-P-E.. Evidently, our weeny world awaits yet another messiah, with a little "m."

hey, If Teddy kennedy loves him... or at least attempts to slur his name in his drunken stupor... we really should all love him, shouldn't we?

No to Obama for President. He has less experience than Bush and look where we are. Guiliani for President!!!

Excuse me, I'm a liberal, so I'm probably particularly dense, but what's that picture all about. What's the connection between Obama and people who wear white pointy hoods?

And George W. Bush's experience as Governor of Texas qualified him to be President? Please explain to me how Bush was qualified and Obama is not. Furthermore, we see how well Bush's experience prepared him for the challenge of fighting a war. It is hard to imagine that Obama could do any worse.

You mean mortuaries, darling?

Hey "Webutante"-

Why have you depicted Obama as a member of the KKK? I'm not a huge fan of his, but as a Christian, I think that photo is woefully inappropriate. Given the history of African-Americans in the country, depicting one in white supremacist garb strikes me as downright disgusting.

Unless I'm missing something. What exactly are you trying to communicate?

Webutante said...

Greg, Mr. Obama obviously put on that ridiculous garb as a spoof, and I picked the photo as a spoof because it reminded me of "The Man from Glad."

You can certainly make of it something much more sinister and politically incorrect, but that's not why I used it. Where's your sense of humor? Oh, we're not supposed to have a sense of humor anymore, are we?

Buck up.

Well said, Webutante! Only the left is allowed the humor. When we use humor we are mean spirited. They are just being funny...like Kerry. So funny wasn't he?

Okay, "Webutante," when you say Obama "put on that ridiculous garb as a spoof," I assume you mean that the photo is undoctored. From what site did you grab the photo? You're telling me that Obama actually put that on? Either way--what's the "spoof," exactly? I'm not asking you to defend your use of the picture. Just tell me what the joke is.

As for the comment from "Jungle Mom"... Kerry made a joke insinuating that a good college education could help our future leaders avoid foreign policy fiascos like the current one. It was a joke that, although poorly worded, was willfully misconstrued by many smart people such as yourself as some sort of reference to the soldiers. You knew, as did anyone with basic reasoning skills, that Kerry was not criticizing "the troops," but rather the people who put them in a disastrous situation. And you're comparing that joke--which everybody pretended not to understand--with a picture of a black man in a Klan outfit? Nice moral compass, "Jungle Mom."

Would it be funny if I Photoshopped a Nazi uniform onto a Lieberman photo? How about if I riffed on "Jungle Mom"'s alias by depicting her as a black woman with a bone through her nose, driving an SUV?

Just to be very clear: All I'm asking is you to do is explain what the joke is. This isn't about being "politically correct." Just tell me what is being "spoofed."

Consider me "bucked up." Now "sally forth."

P.S. Perhaps you could run this photo, another hilarious spoof about the zany legacy of white supremacists in America:

Wait. Are you actually trying to say that Obama PUT THAT OUTFIT ON? It is the most obvious photoshop job I have ever seen in my life. The head doesn't even match the size of the neck. Obama--or ANY black man--putting on that outfit is about as likely as Bill O'Reilly showing up at the studio in a "Keith Olbermann for President" t-shirt. You should really vet these things a bit more carefully.

If you have to ask what the joke is...you wouldn't understand if I told you.

But thanks for your earnest input. It's time to move on now.

"If you have to ask what the joke is...you wouldn't understand if I told you."

Well, if I wouldn't "understand" it--much less find it funny--I guess it's not much of a joke, is it?

Nice try. Good to see you have the courage of your convictions, "Webutante."

I grew up in the south, went to segregated schools, and heard no end of watermelon jokes, lynching jokes, jokes about rolling coins down the street in Jewish neighborhoods, and so on. The tellers of those jokes thought they were funny, too.

I'm looking forward to a future post explaining why it is that you think that the GOP is having problems capturing the Negro vote.

c'mon! where's that conservative spine you grew after noticing the "sharp left turns" of your life? personal responsibility and all? as a conservative, I find your lukewarm un-apology revolting.

that picture is distasteful and offensive and profoundly un-funny. own up to it. or be prepared to never be taken seriously.

More lame-ass white-boy "humor" from a matched-set white girl. PS—I'm white, so I can call you out on this.

Larry Leonetti,

Whatever you think of me, it is your perfect right to never come here again.

But as for your comment, you have to do better than that to ever get in my comments section again.

Good day.

I saw the obama photo you posted in google's cache. Don't know where you got it but he didn't pose for it. It's an obvious photoshop.

Good thing you took it down though because it was pretty tacky
