And A Jolly Good Day to You Too, Mr. Wolcott

I wondered where all these liberal, humorless commenters were coming from on my comments page, and now I know.

I'm afraid you've put me in much better company than I deserve, Mr. Wolcott. Anyway, perhaps our paths will cross out in nature sometimes.

Meanwhile, have a nice day. I do hope the sun is shining where you are.

Pretty hilarious that you post about weeping over MLK in the Apple store, yet you think it's a kick to post a pic of Obama in Klan robes.

Then again, I guess I'm just "humorless".

Darling, if you don't want to listen to me, listen to Dr. Krauthammer. He says, "His government is hopelessly sectarian. It protects Sadr, as we saw dramatically when Maliki ordered the lifting of U.S. barricades set up around Sadr City in search of a notorious death squad leader. It is enmeshed with Iran, as we saw when Maliki's government forced us to release Iranian agents found in the compound of one of his coalition partners..."

And so on.

How can an obviously intelligent woman like you look at a total debacle like Iraq and see anything positive?

This has nothing to do with Republican or Democrat, darling! This is simply a case of reality!

One day you wake up, and you see that the big rock on your left finger isn't the two-carat brilliant cut grade d that you thought it was, but cubic zirconia!

This is your cubic zirconia moment, darling!

Wake up and see the fraudulence!

I'm afraid, my dear, that what I see on my left-hand finger is still a diamond. Granted it may be diamond-in-the-rough, but a diamond nonetheless.

And remember, ZZ, many people could have sworn they saw zircons in the waning days of The Civil War and World War 2. And voila! a diamond reappeared.

Darling--We are all free to choose the martial analogies that suit our purposes. I prefer to compare Iraq to Algeria, or Vietnam.

Something tells me that you and I draw the opposite conclusions from these wars, but nevertheless, I offer them as examples of the futility of fighting a counter-insurgency with conventional force, especially when the conventional forces come from a society that knows nothing of the culture of the counterinsurgency.

Add to that the sheer, utter, senselessness of wasting good American lives to install a Muslim fundamentalist government, dominated by a party called The Supreme Council of Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). Since when do Americans fight for Islamic Revolution?

Therefore, I continue to think that the centerpiece of this bauble is fake. In fact it does not even rise to the level of cubic zirconia which, after all, a smart but poor girl can use to set off her natural assets.

It is paste.

Worse than that, the paste that an aging whore who has no natural assets and no money in the bank uses to cover up her fallen state.

I would not give a plug nickel for your appraiser, Madam.

Well, time will tell its intrinsic value, ZZ. But in the meantime, and although we are on polar ends of the spectrum, you certainly write and articulate your position well.

Best wishes and may the best bauble win.

Why didn't you put Wolcott in a KKK outfit?

Humor is of course a great thing - just try to make it funny next time...

Webutante, maybe they will all be happy if you just say it was a botched joke...

Webutante said...

That is probably true. However, neither I nor this blog exist to make "them"...."happy." I would drive myself and my few readers crazy if I attempted to be all things to all people.

Some of these people are not interested in being assauged; they only want to stir the pot further.

Have already explained myself in several other comments and have nothing else to say.

Except, thank you for your input.

Hey Chika why cut off additional posts from us "them" types you refer to? This was starting to get interesting and even a bit insightful. Just why do you have this bloggy thing again?

It is certainly not the fault of the Webutante that Wolcott must live the life of a barren beard in New York. The only saving grace is that, in that city, he is far from alone.

For Americans in Baghdad and Seattle who want to comment, I open 'em back up.

Ah, Gerard. So true, but you didn't go far enough. Not only does Wolcott have all the other barren folk in New York for company, he also has - where the rest of us have children and grandchildren - his cats. And where the rest of us have lives and friends, he has the adoration of the emaciated fashion slaves and dead-tree gossip addicts. Smugly he hauls his considerable freight up and downtown, searching for yet another opportunity to be seen eating with, or speaking to, someone deemed by other nobodies to be a somebody.

Most fitting of all, he holds himself too enlightened, too smart and sophisticated to believe he is anything but the descendant of apes. And for all we know, he may be. Others of us, less "evolved" but more content, are happy to hold a simple place in the greatest plan imaginable. Wolcott attempts to make us look the fools. Our children's grandchildren will laugh in the sun when Wolcott is no longer even a memory.

Like Condi Rice?

Nancy Pelosi has five offspring. So what?

Childnessness is a bi-partisan option, darling!
